Explorer Abuse List

This was the visual component to our investigative piece on the Explorer Scout abuse cases across America. I was asked to do a simple map but wanted to take a different approach with the data we had.

I felt that a standard locator map where people could simply look up the handful of instances in their own city and ignore the rest was a disservice. I wanted users to have to scroll through each and every case and narrative that had been uncovered so far. A subtle yet uncomfortable impression of just how long and widespread this abuse has been. While we didn’t force users to go through this page to get to the main article, we clocked a very high engagment time on those who did.
